If you know Philadelphia, you know Geno's. Best cheesesteaks in the world. Reader Willie S. sends word via the Philly Inquirer that Joey Vento, the grandson of Italian-born immigrants who owns Geno's, is taking a stand for assimilation and against illegal immigration. The Inquirer does its best to knock down Vento, but his blunt Philly style overrides the paper's wishy-washy open-borders slant:

found this at Michelle Malkins site

this one was also there also. I think i'll file it under how not to eat a philly cheesesteak.

If your in Murthas District replace him with Diana Irey

Thirty two years is a long time to spend in Washington. For decades, western Pennsylvania looked to John Murtha to stand up for our values. But as the years have drifted by, John Murtha has drifted further and further from the ideals that made this country great. He has become part of the problem in Washington.

While John Murtha is calling for an immediate withdrawal from the war against terror, Diana Irey has been standing steadfastly by our fighting men and women and is committed to finishing the job. And while John Murtha is voting to tax our social security benefits, Diana Irey has been holding the line on taxes and government spending.

This election is about bringing common sense principles back to Congress. Join the fight!

Graphic from a good blog that also has a weekly vlog go check her site out

from The Gates of Vienna seems i learn something new every day

Today, our Memorial Day for 2006, marks the 553rd anniversary of the fall of Constantinople. Paul Belien gives a moving account of the story at Brussels Journal. His recalling of the appeasement that led up to the seizure of the city is especially notable in our time: appeasement is a fool’s vain wish to avoid the predator:

the dreaded ice cream cone lid of blasphemy came back in harpers for those that dont remember some british muslims claimed the swirly was the same as the arabic word for allah and intimidated burger king into removing all the ice cream lids and printing new ones now theres more from this at harpers

the money quote is

In a way, I’m glad he did this to me. It has opened my eyes. The fear of God, the love of God, the love of not letting anyone disrespect God. Even though it means nothing to some people and may mean nothing to some Muslims in this country, this is my jihad. I’m not going to rest until I find the person who is responsible. I’m going to bring this country down.

need i say more

Jan III Sobieski (1629-1696) (John Sobieski) was one of the most notable monarchs of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania from 1674 until his death. Although his reign lasted only twenty-two years, it was marked by a period of the Commonwealth's stabilisation, much needed after the turmoil of the Deluge and Chmielnicki's Uprising. Popular among his subjects, he was also a brilliant military commander, most famous for his victory over the Turks in the 1683 Battle of Vienna. For his victories over the Ottoman Empire, he was dubbed by the Turks the "Lion of Lehistan."

This is from Gates of Vienna which brings forth a question. WW2 gave a big boost to aeronautical companies (mass producing bombers etc...). How many businesses have sprung from the current world war (war on terrorism). A few things pop right up, little known weblogs have grown to mega-blogs, there are Authors that were practicly unknown (to me) are now daily reads. The above button was basicly a gag someone made but apparently has made its way to t-shirts being sold in germany.

I never knew my maternal grandfather, but I am proud of his voluntary service and of his supreme sacrifice to our country. RIP.

To my paternal grandfather, who was a pilot in WWII, and a career Air Force officer, thank you for your service. RIP.

To my father who was a Marine--once a Marine, always a Marine--thank you for your service. To my niece, currently a Marine, may God's protection and blessings be upon you in the service of your country.

The image above is from the Punchbowl National Cemetery, where my maternal grandfather is buried.

of course Iran doesnt support terrorists. this picture was taken by an ap photographer in Iran. the story can be found here.

and the money quote

"Hizbollah, Hizbollah," the crowd chanted as a singing group supported by the Lebanese guerrilla group began songs calling for Islamic resistance. Iran is one of the key backers of the Shi'ite Muslim Hizbollah.

The volunteer bombers waved Qurans, the Muslim holy book, and one held up a placard paraphrasing Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, leader of the 1979 Islamic Revolution: "Our nation is the first to prove that America can't do anything."

"We are here to prove that Muslims -- that Iranians -- have solidarity and we will willingly shed our blood," said Azadeh, a 20-year-old volunteer who wore a postcard of Khomeini and his successor, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, pinned to her white cloak.
